How to Create Pinterest Board Covers for the Photoshop Challenged // A Step-by-Step Tutorial

Raise your hand if you have heard of Canva? It's a new-to-me tool (and actually relatively new in general) and is so fantastic for the photoshop challenged bloggers such as myself. I have become hooked in the early days of building my blog, and it has played a big part in my progress so far. While I am actively teaching myself Photoshop, I am by no means fluent in it and Canva is a great tool for bloggers who want to create awesome graphics for their blogs, posts and Pinterest.

Yesterday I had about 10 minutes to spare so I went into Canva to create some Pinterest board covers for myself. I wanted my page to look a bit more streamlined, and I think this did the trick!

Here's how I did it:

1. Log into Canva and create a new project with custom dimensions. You'll want a width of 216 pixels and a height of 146 pixels.

2. Now it's time for the fun part! Use your own photo for a background or one of the many options they have available to use. While you can pay $1 for some advanced images and graphics, I think you can do more than enough with the free options included in the software. I used one of my own photos and went to Filter > Advanced and adjusted the Blur so that text would be more visible. Then I went to Text Holders and picked a circle with some text in the middle, changed the color, added my Pinterest board name and voila! Play around and see what you like best!

3. Once you've downloaded all of your images, you'll head on over to your Pinterest profile page. Click the first board you intend to edit, and select Add Pin > From Device.

4. Once your pin has been uploaded, go to Edit Board > Change Cover Image. Your new pin will be the first image that pops up!

A quick tip - I found it easiest to create my first image, upload it to Pinterest and get everything saved and THEN go back into Canva and do each board one by one. Once I had the design I liked, all I had to do was edit the text and I was good to go! When you download the image from Canva within the same design, it has the same file name - going one by one made it a bit easier to know which image was which since the board I was working on was the most recent download. Also, I only updated the first two rows of boards since that's what you first see when you look at my profile. I will likely update a few more in the next few days but thought that was a good start!

That's it! Easy, right? Oh Canva, I love you.

Any other Canva lovers out there? Let me know if you try this! I'd love to check out your Pinterest boards!
