In an effort to keep my suitcase light for our week long honeymoon in St. Lucia, I've promised myself to keep it simple and just take the basics. To be honest, simple style isn't too much of a stretch for me. I'm a huge fan of an understated look - minimal makeup, basic tees and flowy tops, a pair of skinny jeans and a statement piece of jewelry and I'm good. Packing for our honeymoon will be no different! Here's a look at what will be in my suitcase for our trip.
Other than the obvious beach essentials (hellooooo teeny bikini!), I can't be without a good book, some sunscreen, my favorite chap-stick and a camera to capture some of the beachy goodness. I'll be taking books in two forms. I subscribe to Audible and have listened to a few books so far that I have loved. I just downloaded All the Light We Cannot See and can't wait to listen to it while sunbathing. I'll also be taking my iPad and reading via Oyster Books, another one of my favorite subscriptions.
While I plan on taking my "nice camera," I also want to take something a little smaller and more portable for the beach and for the hikes we plan to take. My Canon G12 point and shoot is so much easier than the giant camera bag I typically carry!
Oh - and sun screen. I grew up in Florida and have had my fair share of sun burns, but if my mother taught me anything it's how important it is to take care of your skin. My mom just turned 60 this past year and by looking at her skin, you'd guess she was in her late 40s - no joke! She credits sunscreen and wearing hats in the sun. Noted!
As far as what I'll be wearing, think basic tees, shorts and summery dresses. My absolute favorite top right now is the ryan tee from everlane... and pretty much everything else of theirs. I have ordered a lot of their v-neck and scoop neck tees and tanks and have yet to be disappointed. You better believe I'll be taking a few on our trip! To me, a basic tee like this one worn with the right accessories can be super sexy and stylish.
I've also recently discovered the Asos forever tee. I love the deeper v-neck cut and the soft and flowy fit of this t-shirt. I ordered one in every color.
Lastly, the beauty department. I'm just taking my staples with me on this trip - not even an eye shadow palette! My absolute favorite foundation is Dior forever. I have super sensitive skin - like crazy sensitive. Even the brands you think of when you hear "sensitive skin" cause me to break out in hives. This dior foundaiton, despite the high price tag, is my absolute favorite and worth every penny. I also just started using Maskcara's HAC palette and LOVE it. She is one of my favorite bloggers and I've loved watching her grow her business and develop her own make up line. Her cream blush is part of my essentials routine as well.
For eyes, a quick fill of my eyebrows with the benefit brow pencil and a coat of mascara will do the trick. I am obsessed with this l'oreal mascara - it comes of in "tubes" rather than a blotchy, under-eye mess. It's perfect.
Josie Maran's argan infinity oil in always cherry is perfect on the lips - or great for a different shade of blush! And lastly, my very favorite perfume that I've worn since I was 20; bvlgari omnia crystalline. It's my favorite scent.
What are your essentials for a vacation? I'd love to hear!
